BASIC MEDICAL COVERAGE
For International Students
Basic medical coverage in BC is called MSP (Medical Services Plan). MSP has a 3 month waiting period before you can apply. That means you must be living in BC for 3 months.
MSP is a mandatory provincial government plan for all BC residents and is something that is completely separate from the Graduate Benefit Plan.
MSP provides you with basic medical coverage (e.g.doctors visit fees and and lab testing). MSP is not an extended health care plan.
You must have basic medical coverage in place during the 3 month MSP waiting period mentioned above. The SFU International department has a temporary 3 month coverage that is through David Cummings. Any questions regarding this temporary 3 month coverage should be directed to International Studies at Tel 778 782 4232 and you can find more information posted on their website here:

For more information on MSP please visit their website at: http://www.healthservices.gov.bc.ca/msp/
For Out of Province Students
If you are an out of province student, and still have your provincial coverage. (examples of basic medical coverage include Alberta Health Care and OHIP) then this would be your basic medical coverage.
